StockerYale Introduces the Flat-Top² Generator

Innovative beam shaping module for laser applications in bio-detection, night vision, and optical character recognition

SALEM, N.H.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 6, 2006--StockerYale, Inc. (NASDAQ: STKR - News), a leading independent provider of photonics-based products, today announced the introduction of the Flat-Top2 Generator, a laser beam shaping module that converts a standard Gaussian beam into a focused, collimated, or diverging flat-top profile.

The Flat-Top² Generator relies on refractive optics to create a projected pattern with sharp edges and no diffraction effects. With nearly 100% efficiency, this innovative beam shaper is able to maintain a high degree of uniformity, power, and intensity over large distances.

"An increasing number of applications require uniform intensity over a given area, rather than the traditional laser beam with an intensity peak at the center," said Nicolas Cadieux, Vice-President Sales and R&D for StockerYale's Illumination Group. "Our novel refractive beam shaper is able flatten a Gaussian laser source to a homogenous 'flat-top' profile, either square or rectangular in shape, in order to accommodate the new developments in the photonics field," he added.

To satisfy diverse application requirements in areas such as bio-detection, night vision, and optical character recognition (OCR), the Flat-Top² Generator is compatible with lasers that emit at UV, visible, and near-IR wavelengths. Furthermore, the module allows for seamless integration with the Company's world-renowned Lasiris™ lasers, as well as other laser types, both standard and fiber-coupled.

"One of StockerYale's major strengths is a deep understanding of illumination technologies coupled with a strong foundation in lens design. Customers benefit from the Company's overall optics expertise, as well as the optical modeling and design skills that enable us to overcome the various difficulties inherent in the engineering of illumination products and components," stated Mark W. Blodgett, President and Chief Executive Officer.

The Flat-Top² Generator will be introduced at the Semicon West tradeshow in San Francisco, California, from July 11-13 in booth #7764.
