StockerYale Recipient of Technology Award
Company's Erbium-Doped Fiber Wins Fiberoptic Product News' 2001 Technology Award
April 22, 2002
Salem, NH -- StockerYale, Inc. (NASDAQ: STKR), a leading independent provider of phase masks, specialty optical fiber, advanced optical technologies and specialized illumination products today announced that it was the recipient of Fiber Optic Product News' (FPN) 2001 Technology Award for its erbium-doped fiber. The company's erbium-doped fiber competed within the Cable/Cable Management and Connectorization category and was challenged by products from Corning Cable Systems, Lucent Technologies, Tyco Electronics, and Panduit Corporation.
Erbium-doped fiber is a critical sub-component used in the development and manufacture of erbium-doped fiber amplifiers, (EDFAs). More information about StockerYale's award winning erbium-doped fiber can be obtained from the company's website.
When choosing the nominees for this award, FPN's editorial staff took into account technological innovation and design, usefulness, and sales lead response. StockerYale was awarded a plaque and ribbon during the Optical Fiber Conference (OFC) in Anaheim, California, in March. Paul Jortberg, senior vice president of sales and marketing, optical components, accepted the award on behalf of the company.
"Because StockerYale's erbium-doped fiber is manufactured to the strictest of industry tolerances, providing superior confinement of erbium in the fiber core, we are anticipating favorable feedback from a select group of developers," said Jortberg. "As we continue to manufacture and deliver samples to the leading EDFA designers and manufacturers in the upcoming months, we will be expanding our portfolio of preferred erbium-doped fibers and will also be custom designing fiber for select customers throughout the year," Jortberg added.
"The fact that StockerYale won this award in competition with some of the industry leaders is testimony to our achievements in the specialty optical fiber (SOF) area," said Mark W. Blodgett, StockerYale's chairman and chief executive officer. "The fact that we were nominated for this award back in December of 2001 was exciting enough. Actually winning the award was a feeling of great achievement and pride. Our SOF research and development team headed by Dr. Danny Wong in addition to a group of dedicated scientists and engineers in our Canadian R&D facility have been instrumental in delivering best-in-class SOF products, and deserve much of the credit for making this award a reality. We continue to develop and deliver high-quality SOF and advanced optical technologies to our global customers for the further advancement of the all-optical network," Blodgett added.
