StockerYale’s COBRA™ 500 LED Line Illuminator Named Product Of The Month by Photonics Tech Briefs

High LED Die Packing Density Ideal For OEM Medical & Security Applications

Salem, NH, May 11, 2004 - - StockerYale, Inc., (NASDAQ: STKR), a leading independent provider of photonics-based products, announces that its COBRA™ 500 LED Line Illuminator was named product of the month by Photonics Tech Briefs in its April 2004 edition and was chosen as one of eight product finalists nominated to compete for Photonics Tech Briefs’ 2004 Product of the Year Award.

The Company’s COBRA 500 is a pioneering LED Line Illuminator that delivers up to 500,000 lux of extreme brightness and intensity. This advancement in performance is a result of StockerYale’s proprietary, patent pending, chip-on-board reflective array technology where significant advances in optical efficiency and thermal transfer are realized. The Company announced the availability of its COBRA, (chip-on-board reflective array), technology in August 2003.

The COBRA technology is a cost-effective solution when compared to large-chip high flux sources. It can be applied to both one- and two-dimensional arrays. By applying this technology to industry standard lighting configurations such as area lights, ring lights, spot lights, and backlights, increased lighting efficiencies will be realized since COBRA enables excellent optical efficiency on highly thermally conductive substrate technologies.

Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) have long been recognized as an energy efficient, long-lasting, illumination source that can be configured into virtually any geometric pattern or shape.

The COBRA 500 Line Illuminator is available in stackable 50 cm units, with a range of mounting options. It is a flexible, cost-effective illumination solution ideal for web and surface inspection applications or wherever an intense, long-lasting light source is a requirement. In addition, the Company also markets its COBRA technology to select OEM customers for design-in projects in the security and medical industries. The Company’s versatile LED based illumination solutions are also serving in a rapidly growing number of advanced machine vision and inspection applications.
